Vegan Food Guide to Sapa, Vietnam

A few months ago we travelled through Vietnam for 45 days. Starting in the North of Thailand, we made our way down to the South in 45 days. To much surprise, Vegan food was easily available and had a great variety along the way.

We started our trip with a 3-day tour on the Ha Giang Loop. Included in the tour was accommodation and 3 meals a day. Although not many vegan options were available there was at least always a good portion of tofu in tomato broth, sautéed greens, delicious stead rice and more often then not vegetable spring rolls.

Next stops was Sapa. Situated in the beautiful mountains in Northern Vietnam, about 6 hours by bus from Hanoi. If you are vegan or simply enjoy trying vegan food, you will be happy with the many options in Sapa. We stayed for 3 days and I found a great variety of food options.

Here are a few tried and tested restaurants by yours truly.

SAPA

The first day was a bit chilly so I was looking for something comforting and brothy. Let me just say when you start your trip with a hot bowl of dumpling soup, you just know it will be a good stay.

AHNLY VEGAN

This was the very first place we tried in Sapa. We each had a bowl of their Mi Van Than. It's a delicious steamed dumpling soup with leavy greens and a comforting, flavourful broth. On a side note, I had one of the best fresh orange juices here but I know this also depends on the season. The prices are very affordable.

THONG DONG VEGAN KITCHEN & CAFE

Don't leave Sapa without enjoying a meal here. They have two locations in Sapa and are fully vegan. Their menu is great, but their creamy pasta is an absolute must try. This is also a great place for breakfast or brunch. They are however a bit more expensive than other restaurants, but I think it's worth it.

BAHN MI 911

They have 2 delicious vegan-friendly options, one with mushrooms and another with tofu. I loved both, but the tofu was my absolute favourite. I can neither confirm or deny that I had 3 of them in 3 days. Also try their corn ribs. Delicious!

YEN

This is a vegetarian restaurant with incredible vegan options. Their Sichuan Tofu is soooo good, as well as their Coconut Tofu Soup. It was a cold evening and we decided to sit outside, so we each ordered a cup of hot kumquat tea to stay warm. They are also a bit more expensive than other traditional restaurant, but again I think totally worth it.

321 WOODEN HOUSE

You know I love a pretty cafe and this really has a rustic charm. Completed with an adorable Corgi. Grab your book and cozy up next to the fireplace with a hot oat latte.

OTHER RESTAURANTS I HAVE FOUND, BUT DIDN'T HAVE TIME TO TRY.

I can't promise you they will be good, but they certainly look like they have good options.
