It is currently citrus season where I am and have been eating them everyday. I love adding them to my fruit salads or to my morning breakfasts. Freshly squeezed is also a favourite.

WHAT ARE THE BENEFITS OF CITRUS FRUIT?

These juicy, colourful fruits are packed with nutrients, are hydrating due to its high water content and make a great addition to a healthy diet.

Citrus is a good source of fiber, which has been linked to lower cholesterol and help regulate glucose levels. The fiber also helps keeping us feeling full, making them a great snack for weight-loss.

Citrus fruit is packed with potassium which is important for fluid regulation, muscle contraction and mineral balance. The potassium also helps counter-regulate the salt amount in our diets by helping our bodies flush out the sodium.

Adding citrus fruit to a meal may help absorb other nutrients from other foods. As and example squeezing citrus over leafy greens, salads, fruit salads or breakfasts may help maximize the nutritional benefits.

Citrus fruit are packed with vitamin C, which may help keep our skin looking younger.

CITRUS FRUIT THAT WORK GREAT IN THIS JUICE

  • oranges

  • lemons

  • tangerines

  • mandarins

  • limes

  • grapefruit

HOW TO JUICE THE FRUIT?

You can use either a hand squeezer, a blender or a juicing machine.

I recommend adding the pulp back into the juice as it will increase the fiber content.

If you use a blender, simple peel the oranges and blend into a juice.
