Banana and Tahini filled Hot Cross Bun

Every Easter I use the opportunity to enjoy hot cross buns. Some like them plain or with butter. This is how I love eating them.

HOT CROSS BUNS
These are sweet buns, fragrantly spiced with cinnamon and nutmeg and most often contain small pieces of dried fruit, such as raisins or currants. They are marked with a cross on the top, which is how they got their name.
They are an Easter Tradition in many countries, commonly eaten on Good Friday.

SOME LIKE THEM
Plain or toasted with butter.
Other, like me, prefer them with a filling.
For me, lightly toasted, with a generous spread of tahini, banana slices and a drizzle of honey or maple syrup.
Finished with a dusting of cinnamon, optional.
If you don't like tahini you can replace it with a nut butter, such as almond or macadamia.
BAKE OR STORE-BOUGHT
Sometimes I bake them, but more often than not I will buy them if I can find vegan-friendly ones.
Thankfully this year, as we are travelling, I found vegan friendly hot cross buns at a local shop. It saved me from buying all the ingredients and having to take the rest of the ingredients on our road-trip.
These are perfect for an Easter Brunch or afternoon treat with a cup of coffee.
HOW DO YOU LIKE EATING HOT CROSS BUNS?
Leave me a comment below. I would love to hear if you eat them with a filling.

These are a deliciously, sticky mess....
I am already looking forward to next year.
