Hope Cove, Devon

A weekend in Hope Cove, spending most of the day on the Paddleboard, looking for hidden beaches.

The one day the water is calm and smooth and the next day perfect surfing waves. An Area of Outstanding Beauty.

Hope Cove is a charming fishing village located on the coast of Devon, close to Salcombe. A little harbour, two beaches and a few shops and restaurants. The beaches are surrounded by cliffs and the water is crystal clear. It's a peaceful place and the sunsets are especially beautiful over the water with sailboats making it even more picturesque.

It's July and the beaches are wonderfully quiet. Not many holiday makers yet.

WHERE TO STAY

Hope Cove has a few hotels and Bed & Breakfasts, but also a few places on Air BnB available. During high season the cost of accommodation is higher.

HOW TO GET AROUND

The town itself is not big so you can get around the town easily on foot.

You can visit other areas by bus from the Outer Hope Bus station

Although very limited there is a cab service company.

Overall, I would recommend having a car as other transport can be tricky.

THINGS TO DO AROUND HOPE COVE

• Take a paddleboard or sea kaya out into the water and explore the hidden beaches surrounding the areas.

• Walk the South Western Coastal Path. It's referred to as an Area of Outstanding Beauty for a reason. At this time of year it's even more beautiful being surrounded by fields of wildflowers.

• Take a drive to Salcombe and spend the day there.

VEGAN FOOD OPTIONS

Even though non-vegans might see this place as a seafood heaven, thankfully there are some vegan options available.

As we were there only for a long weekend, I unfortunately didn't have time to explore too many options.

RESTAURANTS IN HOPE COVE

THE COVE

Enjoy a drink on their rooftop with a view of the ocean. I had a Vegan Banana blossom "fish" and chips. It was a generous portion, enough for two in my opinion.

THE HOPE AND ANCHOR

They have a lot of vegan friendly options on their menu. Including a Vegan Full English Breakfast, Bruschetta and Nourish Bowl.

THE LOBSTER POT BISTRO

They have a few vegan options on their menu, but I have not dinned here.
