In November we took a ten day road trip in Spain.
Our trip started with 2 days in the buzzing city of Barcelona and ended with beautiful views over the ocean in Nerja.
Barcelona surprised me. In a good way! I had heard a lot of good things about the city, but it was so much better than I had expected. The combination of the beautiful old buildings with modern interiors is exactly what I love. Stylish coffee shops, delicious food and tapas bars almost everywhere.
Even though the city was busy, it never felt so busy that it was uncomfortable.

HOW TO GET THERE
We took a flight from Bristol, which took about 2 hours. At the Airport we caught the train into the city. The train was clean and perfectly fine to use.
Getting around we found easy. We used buses, but mostly we explored the city by foot.
WHERE TO STAY
We stayed at the Hotel Praktik Vinoteca. Hotel Praktik has various hotels over Barcelona, each with a different theme. Ours had a wine theme and a wine bar at the voyeur. One of the other hotels has a bakery theme with a bakery and I believe another one has a garden theme.
The Vinoteca hotel is in a great location, which was the main reason we chose the hotel.
It's good value for money and had everything we needed for a long weekend stay.
THINGS TO SEE
LA SAGRADA FAMILIA
This has been under construction since 1882 and is a widely considered jewel in Barcelona, designed by Antoni Gaudi.
It is the largest unfinished Catholic Cathedral in Europe. Its worth a visit. The details in the architecture are incredible.
Entrance Fee is around 25 EURO
Recommendation: Book your ticket for the end of the day. The setting sun's light streaming through the glass stained windows is gorgeous!
CASA BATILO
This is another building by Gaudi that is worth seeing.
The Interior reveals Gaudi's genius play of air, light and colour. It has so many intricate details.
Ticket Fee is around 30 EURO.
MOCO MUSEUM
A stunning museum in a wonderful historic building. Well curated art with works included by Warhol, Banksy, Haring and Kusama. Including Digital and Immersive Art.
Entrance Fee: about 17 EURO, but I would suggest checking their website.
Definitely worth a visit if you like art and design.

EXPLORE THE GOTHIC QUARTER
Wonder the winding alleyways , surrounded by medieval history, charm and historic buildings. This includes the Catedral de Barcelona, shops in Las Ramblas, the food market in the Mercado De La Boqueria and explore the streets in El Born.
WHERE TO EAT (VEGAN FOOD)
BUBITA SANGRIA BAR
A 100% vegan restaurant serving delicious tapas and paella. We started our late lunch with Porcini Mushroom Croquettes, followed by a vegan "Seafood " Paella. We ended our lunch sharing a piece of Ginger Lemon Pie.
Everything we tried was delicious!

BOA BAO
Thanks to this restaurant staying open late, we ended up at this Asian Restaurant on our first night.
We each ordered an interesting cocktails, followed by Chinese Eggplant and Mushroom bao buns and vegan Dim Sum. Both really delicious.
BRUNCH AND CAKE
Just as the name suggests, this restaurant serves wonderful, colourful brunches. It is very popular and has long queues on weekends. I recommend their Avocado Toast.

BETLEM
An unassuming, neighbourhood tapas bar, serving authentic tapas. They are not set up for vegan diners, unless you want to eat a few portions of potatoes bravas (which are delicious), but nothing stops you from enjoying a couple glasses of wine whilst your partner enjoys the traditional tapas. I love the high table seating and old marble worktops.

TONKA
A vegan bakery, serving cakes and pastries.
I am hoping to be back again soon to explore more areas and restaurants.
