Chocolate & Pear Yoghurt Bowl

THIS BOWL HAS

  • Chocolate (protein) yoghurt

  • Soft oven-baked pears

  • Stovetop Chocolate Granola

  • Vanilla Chia Pudding

  • finished with a light dusting of cacao

THE CHOCOLATE PROTEIN YOGHURT

I simply mixed a plain, nut-based yoghurt and added a scoop of chocolate protein powder.

If you don't have chocolate protein powder you can use cacao powder

Depending on your preference you can add maple or agave syrup to sweeten the yoghurt. Also, I use an unsweetened, superfoods based chocolate protein powder. Depending on the brand you are using it might already be sweetened.

THE OVEN-BAKED PEARS

These are the star of the dish and are just as the name says baked in the oven until they are soft and juicy. It's very easy to do and takes little effort. All you do is cut the pear in half, scoop out the seedy bit. Place the pears cut-side down in an ovenproof dish. Add a dash of water. Cover with foil and bake until they are soft.

Bear in mind the softness of the pears will affect the baking time. Naturally if the pears are firm it will take them longer to cook and soften.

Here is the recipe.

THE STOVETOP GRANOLA

This is an easy granola to make on the stovetop. Here is the link to the granola.

You can use any granola if you wish. I personally love the chocolate and pear combination.

THE VANILLA CHIA PUDDING

This is a simply mixture of chia seeds, almond milk, maple syrup and vanilla extract. I recommend using either a vanilla extract or vanilla bean paste and not a vanilla essence.

CAN I PRE-BAKE THE PEARS

Yes! You can bake the pears ahead of time and eat them cold. I love making a bigger batch and eat the left-over the next day. They make a delicious snack or dessert when served with vanilla bean ice cream or chocolate sorbet.

HOT OR COLD PEARS

You can eat this dish with warm or cold pears. I have had them both ways and enjoyed them both equaly as much.

NOT A FAN OF CHIA PUDDING

No problem. You can leave this out if you want.

I personally love adding the chia pudding as it provides really good nutrients and it does keep one fuller for longer.

SWEETNESS LEVEL

This is all a personal preference. As the pears, chia pudding and granola already add sweetness I don't normally add any additional sweetness.

You can however finish the bowl with a drizzle of maple syrup or honey if you wish.

Adjust this to your preference, but do keep it mind that too much is also not good as you still at least want to taste the pears.

HERE'S HOW I MAKE THIS BREAKFAST

  1. Put the oven on to 200C.

  2. Whilst the oven is preheating quickly mix all the chia pudding ingredients together and set aside.

  3. Next, prepare the pears so they are ready to go into the oven once it's pre-heated.

  4. Whilst the pears are in the oven make the granola.

  5. After that mix the yoghurt and chocolate protein powder and set aside.

  6. Once the pears are soft and juicy you can remove them from the oven and start building your yoghurt bowl.
